Case Study
This project was created for the Movie Making Throughout The Bay, Inc. (MMTB) Producers Challenge 2017. The challenge required the script to include the following elements: an item, a location, a character, and a verbal statement. All specific elements for each category were provided by MMTB prior to pre-production.
The director created the initial concept. We collaborated with a talented writer who developed a screenplay based on the basic premise of the film. After the script was finalized, the director and I collaborated with a storyboard artist to develop the idea further so that the Director of Photography, Script Supervisor and others had a good grasp on the types of shots needed. I broke down the script, discussed with the director in correlation with the storyboard to create a shot list and call sheets. The Dented Cranium Productions creative team and I finalized casting, hiring crew, location scouting, and more. In addition, I worked with the executive producer to determine budget and with the director on creative vision of the film - from props and costumes to set design and logistics.
Production took seven days on-site, six locations and 47 people involved from start to finish. I obtained the required permits, insurance, waivers, and organized the logistics of equipment setup and take down. Also, acted as line producer to make sure filming was on time and on budget. Addressed needs of cast and crew with the executive producer regarding craft services, breaks, and more.
In post-production, I not only designed and produced the marketing collateral, trailer, title sequence and end credit sequence, I also developed and created the user interface seen in the first person perspective scenes. The director, executive producer, and I worked through the editing process till picture lock. We then worked with an award winning composer on the original score. Once all the film was complete, I communicated with our fans/followers through social media posts, website, and email.
The poster inspiration was based on researching the science fiction genre. After analyzing the color schemes and typefaces that were used, the blue overlay was selected to bring some mystery and somberness to the viewer. The poster photo was taken by me on location. It was the perfect opportunity to showcase Erin’s emotion in the mirror while reflecting on her life with feelings of frustration, confusion, and determination.
The picture book prop was created for this film and included photographs that I have taken.
The movie poster was honored as a semi-finalist in the Los Angeles CineFest 2018 Poster Competition.
