Toastmasters District 57 F.A.T. club requested a branded invite for their Halloween Open House event. Desired to have a flyer and an image to post on Instagram.

Case Study

The request was for a fun invitation flyer inviting people to the F.A.T. club Halloween open house. The target audience was mainly college students and professionals. The content was provided by the club president and social media vice president. They wanted to have the essence of Toastmasters, but fun and engaging.

The original concepts were to keep with a color palette of orange, black, white or gray, and burgundy for Halloween mood, while eluding to what Toastmasters is about. Through the use of illustration, I explored what Toastmasters would look like while focusing on themes like growth, community, confidence, and the “T” for Toastmasters. By using the pumpkin as the character, anyone could imagine themselves at the podium or in the audience. The original choice selected was the black background with the pumpkin on the podium and the large “F.A.T. Open House” text.

After a second round of review there was one stakeholder who requested the Toastmaster logo on it. I then did a second round of research to locate the official Toastmasters International logo. After locating the micro-brand site, I discovered that illustrations were not allowed per the branding guidelines. After explaining the discovery, I developed a second round of concepts using the provided imagery, branding, fonts and logos from Toastmasters International.

The stakeholders liked two directions where there was the solid color section with the information on the left and an image on the right. As the meeting format at the time was through Zoom, they like the three stacked images which eluded to the Zoom interface format. Some club officers still wanted a Halloween element, so the consensus was to add the illustrated pumpkin character.

All the stakeholders approved the final design. The social media graphic and the flyer were distributed via Facebook, email, and more.

The open house was a success with 17 guests attending and a guest speaker.
